Hey everyone, I have a question about my Ryzen 7 2700X. I’m not an expert, just someone who’s a bit more advanced. I’m using an Aorus B450 Pro motherboard with the CPU, and when I enable turbo boost in BIOS (it’s set to auto), the voltages spike up to around 1.5V, but mostly hover near 1.45V or 1.47V for a while—lasting several seconds. Then they drop back down to about 0.8V for roughly five seconds, and it repeats. This high idle voltage causes my CPU to heat up to about 50°C when idle, even with a well-ventilated case and cooler. The issue disappears once I turn off turbo boost in BIOS, where the cores run at around 3.7GHz and the voltage stays near the maximum I remember (~1.15V).

If I leave turbo boost on, the temperatures get even higher, especially when using Ryzen Balanced, Balanced, or High Performance mode—my CPU gets really hot. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows three times without any help, but I’m hoping someone else with this setup can share their experience. My 1700X spikes to 1.52 V during idle. It's alive still 3 years later. It's fine, don't worry about it. You wouldn't want to OC with that voltage constantly, but normal CPB uses it only when it's safe to do so. This. Zen/Zen+ CPU's are very sensitive to temperature and current. High voltage, low current situations are where you see the spikes.

My 1700X spikes to 1.52 V during idle. It's alive still 3 years later. It's fine, don't worry about it. You wouldn't want to OC with that voltage constantly, but normal CPB uses it only when it's safe to do so. This. Zen/Zen+ CPU's are very sensitive to temperature and current. High voltage, low current situations are where you see the spikes.

Sure, I get it. If your performance improves with more cores like 2700x, but the workload isn’t too heavy, it shouldn’t harm the chip. It seems both current and voltage play a role. Thanks for clarifying!

I trust this covers what you need. Down there, the CPU voltages are visible, with VID and VDD showing elevated levels.

The video signal doesn't carry much information. It's merely a processor voltage request. It doesn't indicate the CPU is using it every instant. You can safely disregard this value. The VCore is what matters under different conditions. I favor HWInfo64 for better accuracy.
