many people claimed this, but my 3600 kept running around the low 30s and even the 5800x3d only hit about 35-37°C. I think my 3600 was actually a good sample, probably pushed to 135W and felt cooler than the stock version? (at full load) Haha but my 5800x3D? Not sure, or maybe? That seems like a strange coincidence, right? I’m also not sure a CPU labeled as a golden sample would automatically run cooler—it usually gets hotter instead. Also, neither of those CPUs ever reached the advertised top speed, just that they stayed cooler than average (for some unknown reason) so they could run longer at full frequency. But yes, these higher temps are normal if you use a good case design as shown on YouTube and maybe an efficient water cooler. But it shouldn’t get this hot with a standard air case like the Zealon or a setup with two 180mm fans front and back. Yes, that’s another of those discussions, so: ^ that’s on the high side, it’s usually closer to 35°C. But yes, if your CPU stays at idle around 60°C, it’s fine—just a bit sad, but performance loss is real due to heat buildup in PCs.

With Zen3 and newer models, performance improvements mean you don’t need the maximum settings right away. CO tuning might require more expertise for beginners building their first custom PC.

But honestly, Zen 4 includes a fake thick IHS for better compatibility with AM4 (I find this point silly) and a temperature sensor nearer to the real hotspot. Together they make it seem like it's overheating. Zen 4 X3D also has extra thermal insulation in the vcache core. Idle temperatures aren't that important—it's the situations that cause throttling that really count.

Stock performance appears stable. Airflow conditions seem typical. Ambient temperatures are around 89°C, which matches the TJMAX target for these chips—they’ll aim to reach it once stock is available. If Cinebench scores near expectations, everything functions correctly. You might explore adjusting the Curve Optimizer for further improvements, though Zen4 generally operates as intended.

The room temperature is around 23°C. You're getting similar results as others. With four intake fans (two at the top, two at the front) and just one exhaust fan, you might consider rearranging them—swapping the top intake fans to the exhaust position could help improve airflow.

Huge fun at scale, no 3D cache concerns, all the action delivered straight away

I don't think it will shift much, but you can experiment with rotating the top fans.

I’d also think about purchasing a fresh case, maybe a fish tank case with plenty of fans. Are there any suggestions near $200?
