Right now I own an i5 4690 and a GTZ 960, and I usually achieve around 100 fps on R6. Can the 1070 handle Rainbow Six at medium settings, 144hz, and 1440p? Or should I wait for Vega, or stick with 1080p? I noticed the ASUS MG279Q is on sale and it’s been on my mind.

Yes, I think so. Your CPU might actually restrict performance at 144fps in 1440p, especially with a medium configuration and a 1070 resolution.

It seems Ryzen has some issues with gaming performance, especially at high resolutions like 1080p. A 3570K OCed running at 4GHz might outperform it in certain titles.

The R7 costs too much for my needs; I'm hoping the R5 will be better. It looks like a smart move or maybe I should keep going with Intel?

Perhaps by then AMD will have updated the microcode to address their SMT and memory problems, which could be a worthwhile move.

I've encountered nearly every disappointing Ryzen test I could find. I'm hoping the R5 will handle overclocking better.
