I find it hard to resist trying this game with SSAA 2x turned on on my 1660 Ti Strix OC. Unfortunately, compared to SMAA I experience about a 30 FPS decrease with SSAA 2x, and I’m surprised how much it puts strain on the GPU. In open world mode I manage around 34 FPS at most, making the game barely playable. The graphics look noticeably better than FXAA or SMAA, especially for characters. It seems you’d likely need a 2080 Ti for smooth performance.
SSAA functions like a high-resolution sampling method, naturally requiring significant processing power. I don't remember if SSAA 2x precisely doubles the render resolution, but assuming it does, you're effectively rendering the game at nearly 4K quality.
You don’t really require SMAA on a 1440p display. It doesn’t matter much for your 1080p setup either. A 2070 is likely the best you’d need for smooth 1440p at 60fps.
SSAA 2x means enlarging your regular image by two times in both width and height, roughly doubling the expense. It resembles Nvidia/AMD Virtual Resolution 4K or similar settings in other titles (distinct from SMAA).
Absolutely correct, upscaling from 1440p to double the resolution using AA works well. I’m surprised it maintains the same 30 fps even on an 1660 Ti system. It’s odd I get the same frame rate with SMAA versus FXAA... feels a bit strange.
