High CPU temps
High CPU temps
My CPU (R7 5800X) operates around 67 average with high demand reaching over 95%. I removed the CMOS settings so everything runs normally, and I've experimented with lower voltages, but performance remains unchanged. I also switched to a new thermal paste. Anyone have suggestions on possible causes? Cooler: Corsair 360mm H150i
It operates near a lower temperature. I'm already using maximum airflow since then, and I've attempted to clean it.
Definitely sounds like an air volume / flow issue. I have a Scythe Mugen 5 on an R9 5900X with a in a Corsair 4000X case with six 120mm fans (three front, two top, one rear), with an iCUE Commander running a custom fan curve. Package temp ranges from 40C - 76C. So if this is a new build, you may need more fans, higher airflow case or to tweak your fan curve. If this is a previous build that is just now showing this problem (not likely), you may have one or more fans cutting out and cutting airflow. Which case and mobo? VRM cooling is important with some processors. Edited April 10, 2022 by An0maly_76 Revised, more info
Your AIO pump might not be working properly. It can be hard to tell for sure. Start by looking for air in the system; if that's not the issue, it could mean an AIO failure. I’d recommend replacing it and trying a Mugen 5 or Noctua NH-D15 instead. Most 5000-series Ryzens get hotter than others, but they usually handle up to 90°C under full load—only the 5600X reaches 95°C. Generally, you should keep them below 80°C with moderate use. On the consumer side, there aren’t many options that need liquid cooling. Edited April 10, 2022 by An0maly_76 Updated, more info
Sure, I’ll give it a shot and run it through the Mobo box for a quick check. The 5800x chip sounds like it’s going to be powerful—definitely worth testing.
Site seems a bit off today. The 5900X offers double the cores and threads, stays under 80°C. The 5800X should handle cooling well with good airflow. I think your AIO and case might be contributing to the problem. Which model do you own? Edited April 10, 2022 by An0maly_76 Updated with more details
