I just completed assembling a new rig using these parts: Mobo Qsus ROG Strix X570-E, CPU Ryzen 7 3800x, RAM 16GB (two 8GB) Corsair Vengenance LPX 3600 CL18, SSD Samsung Evo plus 1TB, GPU Asus ROG Strix RTX 2080 TI OC from an older machine, case Fractal Design, and a Define R5 PCGH. Initially everything seemed fine (CPU around 30°C), but I noticed the chipset fan spinning at 3500rpm with a coolant temperature near 75°C. Given the X570's power draw, it’s expected to generate more heat, yet this is unusually high. It looks like the GPU is obstructing the chipset fan intake, directing all its heat onto the chipset. I ran a stress test using FurMark and observed the chipset temperature climbing to 91-93°C—definitely a concern. These readings are far beyond normal ranges. After searching all day, I found many similar issues but no clear fix. Should I try lowering temperatures with cooling upgrades or should I replace the Mobo and consider alternatives? Most X570 MOBOs seem affected by this design flaw. Thanks for your advice, Stefan.
What is the fan speed for the chipset? Is your GPU obstructing the chipset fan? What is the chipset temperature? Adjust the GPU to the second slot. This is one of the reasons I avoid the X570.
Switching to the x470 will fix your issue. It supports 3950x and is compatible with the x470 crosshair vii. The main drawback of downgrading from x570 to x470 is missing PCIe 4 support. The 93c chipset isn’t ideal for long-term use. Can you try mounting the GPU vertically?
I believe PCIe4 won’t be necessary soon. I chose the X570 mainly for resale value in about five years. My current case doesn’t accommodate a vertical GPU setup, and I’m having trouble finding a compatible case for a wider GPU. It’s quiet—silent cases are preferred—though they usually support only up to two slots, which is close to the 2.7 you mentioned. Appreciate the advice!
