I'm searching for a vertical router that uses less space yet offers more than four LAN ports, ideally surpassing your AC68U.

Instead of flipping the router, simply switch it to a vertical position.

Choose a switch with extra LAN ports instead of a router packed with them.

Turning the AC88U upside down places all the ports at the top, but it doesn't function properly.

Mikrotik hAP AC2 satisfies your needs, though RouterOS comes with a learning curve—it offers advanced capabilities but sacrifices simplicity. It shines if you want features like multiple SSIDs and VLANs. Note: Upgrading from AC68u to hAP AC2 reduces wireless configuration from 3x3 to 2x2 while adding MU-MIMO support. Performance on individual devices may dip slightly, but multi-device activity boosts speeds. Overall, RouterOS outperforms most firmware options for the AC68U platform.

I forgot to include the "more than" in your message. It seems there isn't one here. Perhaps a mount for AC68U is available? You can purchase brackets from https://www.simulant.uk/shop/asus-ac68u-...wall-mount or print them at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1659893

I gained some insight. Initially, I believed routerOS was designed for DIY mini PC builds. I didn’t realize it could work on pre-built small routers. The mounting option is also useful. It seems meant for hard-to-reach spots, though setting up wiring and LAN connections might become tricky.

The only ready-made devices capable of running RouterOS are developed by Mikrotik directly, though they are also available for standard x86 platforms such as those used with PFSSense and provided in a virtualization-friendly version.
