High 5600x idle temperatures
High 5600x idle temperatures
Hey everyone, I just switched from an old Haswell CPU to the 5600x but my idle temps are way up, usually between 55-65°C. That’s much higher than my old CPU’s 30-40°C idle range. I’m using a Noctua NH-U12S cooler and double-checked it’s properly seated. Any tips or advice would be great!
The 5600X tends to get quite warm, making it challenging to move all the heat away. On my custom loop, temperatures usually sit between the mid-30s and mid-40s with coolant around 25-30°C. High idle temps stay steady since the CPU is rarely truly off. When I power down everything and place it on the desk, it drops to about 2-3°C below the coolant. Activating VPN or launching programs raises the reading. I checked CB23 for 30 minutes today and it peaked at roughly 65°C, even with PBO/AutoOC enabled. That’s the benchmark I’m using.
Completed a 20-minute stress test with 3D Mark, reaching the maximum temperature of 71°C.
I had some trouble with my 5800x. The paste I purchased seemed to be the problem. Coming from an Intel chip, it confused me about why my thermal readings were higher than expected. After applying the new paste and checking again, I’m still in the 25 to 30°C range. It’s still a bit puzzling. Ryzen processors tend to heat up quickly, but they never exceed 60°C. I’m wondering if the paste issue might still be present. Could this be typical behavior?
