Hibernation file error right after turning on computer: 0xc0000719
Hey there. This error is showing up again in just two days. It also happened about a month ago or so. The problem starts when I press the power button on my laptop. When I do that, the screen goes black and nothing else happens. The computer isn't sleeping or going to sleep; it's completely turned off right now. After I hit the button again, the laptop shuts down completely. Then I turn it back on, but this time Windows starts up fast without showing any error message at all. Can anyone give me some help? Here is a picture of that error. Should I go into Recovery Mode next time to use my Windows 11 USB drive? Thanks so much for the advice! OS: Windows 11 Home, 64-bit, Computer type: Laptop, Brand/Model: ASUS X1502ZA, Processor: Intel i5-1240P, Memory: 8 GB RAM at 3200 MHz, Graphics Card: Intel UHD, Hard Drive: 512 GB SSD with M.2 slot, BIOS version: 312
Hello everyone, I wanted to share that my situation changed a bit. After reinstalling Windows and fixing nothing there, I used some tools to check my SSD and RAM, and everything looked fine. My last step was this: I took out the USB Ethernet adapter I'd been using to connect online. Once it was gone, I turned hibernation on and off again so that a file called hiberfil.sys got refreshed. Now I just use WiFi instead. It's been almost three weeks since then, and the error has not come back. So most likely the USB adapter was the problem. Before I took it out all together, I tried to see if installing the driver from their official website would help...
The option called Fast Start in Windows causes the computer's memory to save everything before you shut down. When you turn the computer on again, it reads all those saved items instead of starting fresh from the hard drive. Honestly, this makes a big difference for your laptop with an SSD because the system starts faster. You need to do two things then... Boot the laptop ignoring the hibernation file Turn off Fast Startup and/or hibernation The easiest way to stop Windows trying to read the hibernate file is to delete it. Boot the Windows installation media and navigate to the command prompt. In there locate your system drive and delete the hidden file called hiberfil.sys Your laptop should then boot normally. If you don't use hibernation at all, then the best way to disable Fast Start is to completely disable hibernations To do that open an elevated command prompt and enter the commend powercfg -h off
Thanks so much for the info and advice, ubuysa! I didn't know that Fast Start is on by default and it would put my computer to sleep when I shut down - now that makes sense in the context of my problem. I turned off hibernation. Hopefully I won't have any more issues. The only thing confusing me right now is this: Before turning off hibernation, when I closed the laptop lid, it would go into sleep mode and then after a few hours (rough guess), both the power LED and the Ethernet USB Adapter LED would turn off. Was that sign that after a few hours of sleep, my laptop would go to hibernation? During the first phase you mentioned, the power LED was blinking and the Ethernet USB Adapter LED was on. I haven't tested yet now that I turned off hibernation, so what happens after a few hours?
Fast Startup is just a trick for sellers to let them make cheap laptops and PCs with hard drives only. You have to turn this off if your computer has an SSD drive. I don't know why they do that about sleep, but when you turn off hibernation, the hiberfil.sys file disappears. This means it can never save anything again.
I turned Fast Startup back on because I feel it helps when starting up my computer. Even though I have an SSD, it's nice to see the difference. Hopefully, deleting and recreating that hiberfil.sys file won't cause any more problems like 0xc0000719.
Dang, I keep getting this error message. Someone on elevenforum told me to run the Driver Verifier, but after finding out that it might crash my computer and that it is mostly intended for developers, I won't do it. I think I'll contact Microsoft support and Asus support to see if they have any advice.
Stop using sleep mode. Your HiberFile is breaking down. This could happen if your hard drive isn't getting enough room, or because the SSD has some bad spots on it. Make sure to check how healthy your SSD really is. Try using a program that comes with the brand of SSD you bought it from.
Hello folks, I want to let you know about an update to my situation. I reinstalled Windows and the problem still appeared. Then I used the diagnostics tools to check my SSD, RAM etc., and they all came out ok. So, the last thing I did was this: I removed the USB Ethernet Adapter that I was using all the time to connect to the internet. After removing it, I turned hibernation off and then on again, so that the hiberfil.sys file got renewed. I've started using only WiFi. It's been almost three weeks now, and I haven't got the error again. So most likely the adapter was the culprit. The model of the adapter is TP-Link UE300. Before removing it completely, I tried to see if installing the driver from their official webpage would fix the problem. They say that generally Windows automatically recognizes the adapter, it was not specifically stated that installing the driver from the official page is mandatory. But they do say that if we encounter problems, to install their driver. So, the driver Windows automatically installed is from 26.09.2015, version 10.38.117.2020, and the driver I installed from the TP-Link website is from 15.08.2022. But even after I did this, the hiberfil.sys problem still happened. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should have recreated the hiberfil file after updating the driver, to see if it worked like this... The main reason why I wanted to avoid WiFi is the bad effects it may have on health. But that's a different story. Maybe these explanations will help others facing the same problem.
The issue seems to be with my USB Ethernet adapter. It feels like the device can't start up properly when the system restarts after turning off for energy saving. I should find a different USB Ethernet adapter made sure it works in Windows 11.
