You're experiencing issues on your Alienware 17 R4 with a notification about updates. The progress bar seemed stuck for around ten minutes before the screen went blank, and now the cursor remains but doesn't respond. You can adjust brightness via function+F9/F10, but pressing power button won't help. It's been an hour since this started. Someone please advise on what to do.

Impressive how you made it through all of them quickly. It seems closing and opening the lid might trigger a change if the machine is programmed that way. However, if the software is stuck, it won’t assist you, so a restart could be necessary.

I'm really glad I closed the lid and reopened it, but the same black screen appeared. After restarting, it booted up fine. Thanks a lot for your assistance—I was worried it would get stuck, but everything seems okay now. Phew!
