Halp! The installation is going haywire. You might want to go back to Windows 7 and leave Windows 8 alone. It sounds like you're comparing it to a clueless cousin—probably not the best idea.

I'm using Windows 8.1 and the main issue is that I can't press F8 to enter safe mode. I've checked several options, but it doesn't work on this version. It runs smoothly and without any crashes.

I often imagined 7 as the laid-back uncle, it usually functions well most of the time, though there are instances when it really throws a wrench in things.

I favor version 7, yet 8.1 is better. Microsoft seems determined to end support soon, and those exclusive features will likely move to 8.1.

It works better for me now, and it feels odd to stick with an older system when a newer one is available.

I decided to try 8.1 and it worked well for me. The system starts smoothly, and I enjoy searching directly from the start screen (which only has a link to the desktop). Pressing the Windows key and typing your query is the fastest method to locate information.

8.1 performs exceptionally well on my Retina MacBook Pro. There are no problems, and scaling functions now operate correctly as intended.

Companies are moving from XP to 7, which means they'll continue using 7 for a while. I think it's better for users to choose 8.1 since Project Spark already offers an 8-only solution, and Microsoft will likely release more exclusive versions soon.

7 is a good option, yet having 8.1 plus a genuine Start menu (like Start8) gives me the smoothest experience. It runs incredibly fast on an SSD.
