Hello everyone, just checking in since you're reading this. I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card and have already installed a new system with an old GTX 1660. My CPU is an i5 12th gen 12400f. I'm curious if adding an RTX 4070 would slow things down for the CPU, especially since I'm currently gaming at 1080p but want to upgrade to 1440p later. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
It shouldn't slow things down, but I suggest a 6800XT, 6900XT, or 6950XT. All of them work better than the 4070 at a cheaper price, except the 6950XT which is slightly pricier but significantly improved.
It would be nice to upgrade the CPU first, but for now I’ll focus on finding the best offer. Keep in mind the RX 6000 series power requirements. If your PSU provides less than 750W and isn’t great at handling overcurrent, go with the 4070 instead of buying both a 6900/6950XT and a 750/850W unit.
