Hey there! I'm here to help with my Ram's OC stuff. What problem am I doing wrong?
Hello, for starters I know computers pretty well but when it comes to the bios I get lost. My PC specs are Ryzen 7 2700x with a Corsair Vengeance LPX stick of 3200mhz (4 sticks of 8gb), an Asus ROG Strix B450F Gaming mobo, a GTX 1060 6gb card, and an EVGA 600w power supply. My problem is that I want to run my ram at its rated speed of 3200mhz. Right now I can see that I am stable at 2933mhz when running at 1.35v (but I want full power lol). I have tried setting the speed to 3000mhz and 3200mhz at voltages of 1.30v, 1.35v, and 1.37v. Both will boot and run games, but my games constantly crash within 10 minutes of playing, and I have had a couple of blue screens. I know there is something that I am missing but I dont know what it is and the timings are not in my knowledge. If someone can help me with what I should/can do. If someone can explain to me how timings work and how to use them so i can fix this issue if that will fix it. thank you in advance.
You have 4 sticks of RAM, but 2933 mhz might be the highest speed you can reach with your current setup. You could try setting the CPU clock to 1.1 volts and turning on XMP. If that doesn't work, try lowering it to 3000 mhz while keeping the voltage at 1.1v.
Not every piece of RAM comes out of the box ready to use, so you usually have to change things yourself to make sure everything stays stable. I had the same trouble. After digging into how Ryzen Memory controllers work, I found out why. Using Thaiphoon burner, I figured out who made my RAM (it was SK Hynix DJR) and then plugged in all that info to a Ryzen DRAM calculator, using fields like brand speed, board model, etc. You can pick between "Safe" or "Fast" settings there. I chose Safe. After getting those new timings and voltages, I went into my BIOS and manually changed them, saved the settings, and now everything is working fine. Hope this helps!
