Hello everyone, my name is 13thguy, a newcomer to Skyrim. I haven’t played much beyond the first few towns or missions, and I have some questions. Which class should I start with—mage? And how should I play it? Should I use a controller, keyboard, mouse, or is 3rd person better than 1st person? Thanks to everyone who can help me! Yes, you heard me—thanks!! That13thGuy

For your initial attempt, try sneaking skills and archery—aim for 2-3 dragon shots at level 16, and shoot non-boss foes quietly when undetected. This adds extra challenge and requires mods. In close combat, decide between quick strikes (dual wielding) or powerful slow attacks (two-handed). Without mods, a controller should simplify things since the interface is designed for consoles, not PC.

I enjoyed archery a lot during my first attempt, so I’d try sneak-archery and light armor or medium options.

You mastered archery and can take down nearly anything with stealth if you reach level 100.

Create your own class, concentrating on the abilities you enjoy, since eventually you'll master everything and become exceptional. Stealth, lock picking, and speech are handy at lower levels.

Race selection hinges on your intended role. For archery, a wood elf seems fitting. Conjuration calls for a dark elf general, while high elves work well for conjuration. Two-handed weapons suggest an orc or nord style, and stealth points to an argonian or khajit. It really depends on your goals. I think combining sneak magic, destruction magic, and archery would be exciting. Sneak is enjoyable to me, two-handed weapons are great too, and destruction magic adds flair. Archery feels a bit dull in comparison. I favor first-person perspectives, using third person only when I need to observe my character or details. It’s not ideal for combat. I prefer M+KB, though a controller is also an option. Let me know if you have more questions.

Sure, I can help with that. What you're considering depends on your playstyle—whether you want to cast spells with both hands or focus on a single weapon. Let me know how you'd like to proceed!

It depends on your speed with casting spells. If you run out of mana before defeating an enemy, using one hand for a sword works well. You could also try the mod at http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37006. It lets you link your first set of spells to a key on your keyboard, your melee weapon to another, and so on. Very useful—have used it for a while and it’s great!

Mage isn't ideal for beginners. Try starting with melee or bow combo. First or third are straightforward. What you like most matters. First person gives a stronger connection to being the hero you play, which is why I prefer it. K+M always works better—you move and fight more effectively and quickly.
