Hey Linux users, I'm here to assist you!
Switching fully from Windows to Linux for my desktop has been smooth. Davinci Resolve functions excellently. I’m not familiar with any magic tricks, but gaming has improved significantly with Steam Proton and Lutris. My experiences with games are mixed, but overall it’s better. World of Warcraft and Cities Skylines perform well. Any Adobe software isn’t recommended. UE5 should work just fine using the methods mentioned, plus Blender too. Unfortunately, some Windows-specific features remain a challenge—I keep my Windows 10 drive ready in BIOS for backup purposes.
I fully support everything you mentioned. Before joining this discussion, I wasn't sure about the differences between supported and unsupported features on Linux, but like you, I depend on non-destructive editing. As a colorist—just beginning in video game work—I'm mainly using Resolve’s nodes and its non-destructive tools. I’d never permanently change a file, even in Photoshop. I don’t use Photoshop much, but I’ll stick with Lightroom for photos because of its great features and design. Their new AI mask feature is really impressive.
For those who really need Photoshop, try using Bottles. It simplifies the process by handling WINE setup automatically.
