Hey, I hope your brother is doing well at university. He left you his PC, but I’m not sure if it’s powerful enough for gaming. I need to check if it can handle games like CSGO, PUBG, RDR2, GTA V, and Rainbow Six Siege smoothly. I want at least 100+ frames per second on medium or high settings at 1080p resolution. My monitor only supports 75Hz, so I’m worried about the visuals. The specs are: Intel i7-4790K, 4GHz, 16GB RAM, 1600MHz, RTX 2070 graphics, 8GB VRAM, 256GB SSD, and a 500GB Samsung drive. Thanks for helping me figure this out!

You're really close to your brother—show him how much you value his gear because it's worth more now. Remember, the board has DDR3, so selling the RAM makes sense. @Dexy If you decide to upgrade, make sure it's at least a Ryzen 5 3600x or an I7-9700K.

I’ll take that into account, but right now I don’t have a job and I’m staying with my parents. Money’s tight, so I can’t afford extra stuff these days. But if this PC can handle at least 100+ frames per second on medium or high settings, I’m okay. I hope it won’t be limited by the old GPU with the 2070 Super—no bottleneck there. Also, what about him? Will he do alright in Red Dead Redemption 2? He needs around 100 fps too, especially for medium or high quality. Not talking about ultra or 4K, because I’d get laggy.

He seems to be a teenager, possibly not ready for all the suggestions. Giving ideas is okay here, but we must grasp the situation and know who the audience is really asking. To Dexy: Thank your brother (and parents I assume) a lot, you have a great computer to use. Have fun!

you will be fine. even an Imac can get decent fps, especially in Minecraft.

I’ll stick with this plan and possibly upgrade next year to an I7-9700K with 16GB DDR4 and a new motherboard. It’s great that you can work on summer projects even if you’re under 18, and you’ll earn around $50 a week working two hours a day. If you manage a month or two with some help from your parents, the upgrade should be feasible. Thank you for your support!

As for the monitors, you might want to think about a 144Hz model if you want smoother gameplay, though 120Hz is also a solid option depending on what you play.
