It means you can maintain good performance even with a faulty chip, especially if it overheats under normal conditions. By adjusting the voltage and curve settings, you can achieve acceptable results.

I'm not sure the problem is simply with "bad" chips. There could be many other reasons behind the issues. I've noticed several discussions where users are running PBO with excessive power limits, using weak cooling solutions, or misinterpreting Ryzen boost settings, leading them to assume the chip overheats naturally. However, applying an optimized voltage curve usually helps most situations by lowering power use and reducing heat generation. In theory, if a chip is genuinely poor at handling stock voltages, stable performance won't be achievable even with lower voltages. That scenario seems unlikely. I've heard about people using 5000-series chips where individual cores lack negative offset, yet whole chips failing on most cores isn't typical. On my end, I managed to cut temperatures and boost performance on a 5900X for roughly three hours by fine-tuning the settings—definitely worth trying if you're considering it.

Hi guys, thank you alot for this conversation. I'm now waiting for a replacement for my 5800x cpu again I thought I had a problem with the cpu I had thinking I got one of the "bad" chips. At least now I know it's common, I will try the new one as soon as I get it and replace it. If it's the same thing I will try undervolting and trying to find a safe way of doing it because im not confident of trying and error with these kinda things (overclocking and underclocking) First option : try new cpu Second option : try underclocking it or whathever will fix overheating and fan noises without loosing to much performance third option : get an extra 250$ and get the 5900x (would you guys suggest the 5900x ?)
