Hey, do you think an AMD card is better than a Nvidia one for playing PUBG?
Looking for the best gaming GPU that fits my budget... my only game is PUBG! When it comes to price, I'm looking at RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, or RX 6700. If I played more games later, I'd already bought an RX 6700. Maybe "XFX Speedster SWFT 309 Radeon" or "Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6700 XT"? Because I always liked the Adrenalin Software and how sharp the graphics look (my impression). But PUBG is a special case, so I fear having trouble with AMD GPUs! Or is that just silly to think like that? When I search for "best GPU for PUBG," everyone says RTX 3060, 3070, or 3080. The "Ti" versions with 8GB are never mentioned, right? Do I need a bigger card than the usual 8GB? For two years now, I used a GTX 1060 6GB and played PUBG smoothly at 100-120 FPS in QHD on my 144Hz monitor. I know it wasn't perfect, but I never had any problems! But last month, things changed for me. Suddenly, every time an enemy appears, the game gets stuck or lags, dropping frames to 80-70 sometimes even down to 40. Of course, PUBG crashes happen too... that's normal. So yeah, I'm already worried about more problems! 😅 Would you recommend getting an RX 6700? Maybe someone who plays PUBG before changed from Nvidia to AMD and could help clear up my doubts? My PC setup: CPU: i7-8700K GPU: GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 2x 8 GB DDR4 sticks (RipJaws, run at 3200MHz) Motherboard: ASRock Z370 Extreme4 Storage: Crucial MX500 hard drive Tower: Fractal Design Define R6 (and I have four HDDs installed). A shorter GPU under 30cm would be better. Monitor: ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-mhd Hope someone can help me fix this! Thanks so much!
PUBG is not super optimized but a GTX 6700 should beat my 1060 easily, I usually get over 100 fps on ultra wide screens even when standing on the ground. Things drop sometimes though and it's rare to go below 144 fps at max settings. A 6700 is better with that processor too. The XT version will be about 25% faster in some places, so if you can afford it I would buy it. A 1060 6GB is okay but not much faster than my old GTX 780ti and I used to get very low FPS when fighting with enemies on crowded maps. It's a good upgrade from that card though. Make sure to uninstall the old NVIDIA drivers first using DDU before installing the AMD one just in case Windows complains. Good luck!
@Viking2121 Thanks so much. So do you think there is no difference between AMD and Nvidia for PUBG!? I know it's not like that where the game runs smoother on Nvidia cards or crashes less often, right? I know the RX 6700 XT is good enough to play in QHD low settings with high FPS. But if someone has an AMD card, they won't have a disadvantage compared to a player with an Nvidia card when playing PUBG. Yes, even at the same level of FPS? Of course, hardware, connection, and ping all matter for this game, let's call it "special" lol. I just ask because right now, I have so many problems here that I don't need new ones! 😊 You aren't talking about AMD GPUs and PUBG at all. Just some old videos where someone used an AMD card and the FPS went up and down a lot... hoping that guy had other issues there too! 😊 In short, AMD cards support this game 100%, just like Nvidia? You know in PUBG every millisecond counts, right? It feels like my enemies play in a one or two second time gap because of my stuttery FPS. Basically unplayable sometimes. Or what about memory interface, memory bandwidth, max VRAM being eight GB or twelve GB?
Well no, I don't usually play PubG much even though it is my favorite game to play sometimes. When I do, the graphics are super smooth and light on lag. The 6700xt isn't actually that bad compared to a 3070 in this game; if anything the 3070 might be better because the 6700xt is just a tiny bit slower than it should be. Also, AMD released a new driver recently that makes all their graphics cards run much faster for games built on DX11. So the difference between them is now very small too.
The only thing I miss about my old graphics card was shadowplay or the GeForce Experience app, but those features are better than what AMD does with recording games. It doesn't work like other apps either, where you can just choose to record for a few minutes of gameplay while playing in a window. That's not a huge deal though, it is pretty good at all. I think maybe OBS or the Windows Gamebar would have been easier to use than what I used before, but that was fine enough for me.
My main complaint with AMD cards is just how fun they are to tweak. If you buy a 6700xt you can easily get even better performance from a 6800 or even a 6800 XT by overclocking it and messing around with settings. Nvidia has always been boring in my opinion because tweaking their stuff isn't really that easy, but I don't care about the games anymore because PubG runs fine on AMD cards just as well as they do on Nvidia cards. There is no difference in smoothness or stability for me, so I am all AMD and it works great without any issues except maybe being a bit lazy playing some games lol.
PubG has been out for a very long time now so most of the bugs that happened with either Nvidia or AMD graphics are probably mostly fixed already by this point in its life. For PubG at 1440p, 8GB is plenty okay to use, but if you play at 1080p then 8GB might actually be too much because it's better than needed. Some other games need more than 8GB like they do 12GB for games that run at higher resolutions or have very demanding graphics, but I think the choice is yours anyway. However, for PubG specifically, 8GB should just work fine unless you plan to play in ultra high definition at 4k resolution where then a 12GB card would be better though the 6700xt might struggle at 4k on some games even at normal settings.
Thanks again! I'd really like to buy a 6700xt, but I guess there is no one on the PUBG Players list who uses an AMD card, so that scared me a little bit.😉 But of course people do what others do, so everyone is using Nvidia lol. Guess I don't need recording software, because I use Mirillis Action. Really like it; it's simple and good and doesn't require many resources. Guess the only software I ever bought was for 17$ or so. I've been using it for years now. So thanks so far. When someone else has played PUBG with AMD & Nvidia, please share your experiences here.
Yeah you do have to take in consideration thats Nvidia has a way bigger market share than AMD. AMD started to drop off back then, like they weren't even competitive on the high end and hardly on mid range cards. They started right after AMD Acquired ATI, they put out the HD6000 series cards and the HD7000 series, they were ok but didn't really compete much. And it got worse after each generation afterwards, like the r9 290x, talk about a space heater and it could hardly keep up with the GTX970 and consumed 3 times more power. Around the RX5000 series and up AMD started to get a better, then the RX6000 series which in my opinion is a good step for AMD, just not great Ray Tracing performance. So you see AMD has to work to earn that market share back for the GPU space, so yeah you'll see more Nvidia users, I'm in a COD clan even though I quite playing COD years ago, I still talk to them daily, Out of the 23 active people in the clan, I can only think of 2 others that are using a newer AMD GPU's, The rest of the users I know for sure use Nvidia, 1 guy still hanging onto his GTX 960, I sent him out my old AMD Vega 64 yesterday so there will be 3 people on AMD that I know of out of that group lol.
Thanks for replying! Pretty said that few people use AMD. Sorry, but I found some other comments saying lots of folks are unhappy with their 6700xt in PUBG (FPS going up and down)... so I ordered an MSI RTX 3060 Ti Gaming X! Yeah, bad luck on me not trying it! 😅 But I am pretty happy with it even if it did not fix my FPS drops (but now the game is much smoother...maybe PUBG problem???)...in the Game I have way more FPS than I thought! @Taego 160-220...only in some situations 145 or so...! Even usage is only at 60% or less, guess my i7-8700K limits the GPU! And did not test much yet. Default graphics settings, low latency off, no maximum power just normal, QHD everything very low...only Textures, View Distance and Antialiasing on medium! So I am pretty happy so far. And in most videos I see Display Latency (Experience) @ 5-7ms...I have 3-4ms...so I am pretty surprised so far! Even I do not want to say something good about Nvidia...I'm an AMD Fan! 😉
