In the evening, I gave my computer a fresh coat in the living room and now the internet (Ethernet connection) is down, though I can still access it. I’m a bit confused about what’s going on. My Ethernet cable runs from the outdoor-rated one up to the bedroom where my PC is, but I need an extension cable to reach it. This worked until recently. The tricky part is that connecting to the extender doesn’t give me a link, yet linking directly to the switch and then the extender does. I’ve tried several fixes: uninstalled the NIC, re-installed ipconfig/cleared it, ran a CMD test on another extender, replaced the RJ connector on my Cat5 cable, and even changed the cable type. Most signs point to a hardware issue, but why would the network function through the switch instead of the extender? This has been reliable for years before this problem started.

The cable might be excessively long, and using the switch with its powered connections could resolve the issue by functioning as a signal booster.

The cable measures 2 meters. The signal problem is important, but I’ve used this configuration successfully for many years. Isn’t Cat5e suitable for distances up to 200 meters?

No, I haven't tried it yet. Would you like me to guide you through the process?

I will try it out; I saw it consistently returning an IP address of 0.19.

You experienced problems when connecting routers, often switching to the wrong one and losing the connection until you entered the correct IP address manually.

I stepped back, realizing I was a huge bell and had swapped my twisted pairs while installing a new connector on my Cat 5 cable. Thanks for all your support!
