Here we go once more!
I just switched from Richland APU to Kaveri last night. Windows 8.1 wouldn’t boot and kept claiming missing files every time I tried. From what I’ve learned, Kaveri doesn’t support dual channel memory, so I reset the CMOS and enabled dual channel in UEFI. Everything worked perfectly then—games ran smoothly, and it stayed that way until morning. But when I got home, I turned on my rig and saw the warning “Windows 8.1 build 9600.” I knew it was genuine, but after some tweaks and trying to create a bootable USB, the Windows Upgrade Assistant refused to accept my key. (Last resort) I reached out to support, but they said it would cost $99–149 for service and I declined. After about an hour of their pushy pitching, she finally gave me the key so I could make a bootable USB. Now my computer feels sluggish—games run rough even though they worked fine last night. My internet speed is also extremely slow at 3MBps compared to the usual 50–60. I’d also love it, but Linux doesn’t support my games. Yeah, they’re siblings—I’ve been wondering this all day. LMAO, I almost think something hidden is in my registry.
Make sure everything is backed up before proceeding. Perform a clean installation and reinstall all necessary drivers. It’s frustrating. I understand what you’re going through—I once had a computer that constantly crashed during reinstalls. I’d check every component, but nothing worked. Eventually, I sold the old machine and bought a new one.
Have you tested memtest and everything? If the problem was software-related, it should have resolved itself after a Windows reinstall (especially if you wiped the drive). You might need to repeat the process, but don’t waste time on activation tricks or contacting Microsoft again—you’ve already paid, so you’re allowed to download an ISO and install the activator yourself.
