Here is some good advice for upgrading your motherboard, processor (CPU), and memory (RAM)?
Hi everyone, I found a 5950x, an MSI b550a pro board, and 16gb of ram for about £250 used. I've been looking around but I'm not sure if it's the right choice because newer CPUs are out there, and maybe Intel can do better. My budget for putting a motherboard, CPU, and ram together is about £250. If I could stretch to £300, would it be worth it? What do you think? I don't game much, so this will be mostly for making stuff like creative work. Thanks!
Welcome to the forums, new friend! I can buy a 5950x, an MSI B550A Pro, and 16gb of memory for around £250 on the used market. What brand and model are you using? The board looks like it has strong cooling design, but since it's in the Pro series, which is basically a starter level product, I don't think it would work well with such a power-hungry CPU. + What do you think? Since I don't play much games, this setup would be better for creative things. Make sure to style your post clearly by listing all the questions from this thread; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* First off, please respect who is asking - this version comes from an Animal's How To Ask For New Build Advice page. I made it because there are too many posts lately asking for upgrade ideas on here and in the CPU section, and I feel like forums. and the community can help with good suggestions. Also, remember to tell us what your current setup looks like: CPU, cooler, motherboard, RAM, SSD or HDD, GPU, power supply, case, OS, monitor, and how old that power supply is, plus its make and model. You should also mention the BIOS version for your motherboard right now.
Personally, I think that is a great deal if everything works without any problems from the seller. I would check getting more RAM later on, especially if your real work needs more than 16gb. The motherboard, in my opinion, is okay for a 5950x. Make sure to buy a good power supply unit for the build. You really cannot get that performance for less money with new parts right now, and it seems like a good deal for used ones too. Just remember, the 5950x alone costs around $200-$250 on eBay used.
That's actually a good trade. I should buy more RAM, maybe go for 32 gigabytes, but I'll give up my current 16 gigabytes instead.
