Here is my problem with a strange power glitch on an Asus N550JK computer.
I have a weird problem on my Asus N550JK. The battery died and the CPU got stuck at 0.80ghz. So I put in an after-market battery, and now it charges up fine. But when I plug in the charger, the CPU stays frozen at 0.80ghz. With just the battery connected, everything works okay though. When both are plugged in, that part of the laptop gets super hot. Nothing else is hot either. I tried different chargers, and the cpu/gpu temps are normal. The BIOS was updated too. I cleared my CMOS. Any idea what's wrong?
Happy New Year! Check if you've got any BIOS updates waiting. You can see your current BIOS version by installing CPU-Z and then going under the "BIOS" tab on the Mainboard. For the battery, plug it out of the wall and take it off while the laptop is turned off. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to reset it, then try turning it back on after putting the battery back in. Have you charged your battery before taking it apart? What computer system are you using today?
I opened my laptop and found a burnt transistor near the charging port. I took it out because it was clearly damaged. Now the computer won't get power from the charger, even though the battery works. I am going to swap that part out and test again later. The BIOS shows up correctly both in the screen and in the settings window, which means my latest update (.210) is still okay with everything.
