Here is a list of memory problems on HP Omen 17s after updating BIOS settings.
Hi all, I recently did some Windows updates and now my computer is freezing and showing BSOD errors. After trying a few fixes, I went ahead and updated the BIOS from version F.47 to F.49 Revision A by using the install assistant on my laptop. Right after that, my computer crashed hard. The power light was on and the caps lock light flashed three times when I tried to use the power button to fix things. I tried pressing Win + B with the power button but nothing happened. Finally, I opened up the laptop, took out one stick of RAM, put it back in, and suddenly everything started working again. When I tried swapping that memory for another kit, it didn't work either. The second slot isn't working at all, and my computer won't even turn on with two sticks of RAM installed. So now I have only one stick of 8GB left. To fix this, I downloaded the old BIOS file and flashed it back onto my laptop using a USB drive. When I tried to boot up again using Win + B and the power button, I got an error saying "The system bios recovery failed" because it couldn't open the BIOS signature file. What did I do wrong? How can I go downgrading the BIOS back to F.48 or another version so that the second slot works with my RAM? Thank you very much!
After you start using the computer interface, check if anything shows up as flagged by a yellow warning sign in the Device Manager. Also, try not to update your BIOS because doing that might damage your laptop's main board permanently.
everything seems working fine now in my Windows PC, no more crashes or freezes happening. The only thing I had trouble with was when I tried updating the BIOS. It wouldn't turn on at all. My screen stayed black and the Caps Lock light kept blinking in a pause pattern for some time. After a bit of searching, I realized it might be a memory problem, so I took out one of my RAM sticks. Then everything started working again. Right after that, I tried another RAM stick kit from another laptop that works fine 100%. The same issue happens though. The RAM slot right next to the motherboard seems to block the boot process; once it was occupied, the laptop wouldn't start up at all. One post about a similar problem with HP systems caught my eye. That's why I think it could be related to the BIOS. Any help on rolling back to an older BIOS would mean a lot. Thanks.
Hey, do you have an old BIOS backup ready? Try these steps to get back that old version if it doesn't work. If nothing goes right, just call a service guy to fix it for you. Let's roll the BIOS back up and check what happened. 1) Turn off your computer. 2) While it's still shut down, hold down both the Windows key and the B button at the same time. 3) When you turn it on again, keep holding that Windows + B combination until a BIOS recovery screen shows up. 4) Follow the things shown right now on the screen and click OK to continue.
Here is a link to a guide for creating a USB drive that backs up your BIOS settings so you can get back to an older version if needed.
