I’ve switched to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7, thanks to a friend of mine who shared his Dreamspark. To be truthful, I’m really getting used to it now and finding it works well. Have you tried setting up your own system? Any advice or shortcuts that could help? I’d love to hear what others recommend.

Discovered two tools that significantly improved the experience: Start 8, a traditional start menu, and Metro Mix, which lets you launch "window apps" on the desktop in windowed mode.

Click the toolbar's right-click button, choose properties, then navigate to the navigation section where you can adjust settings. Avoid using the new start screen; instead, opt for the Classic Shell, which is free.

Windows 8 offers many features waiting to be explored. For instance, right-clicking the Start button (or Win+x) provides quick access to several useful menus. Within a folder, selecting File -> Command Prompt lets you launch it as an administrator from anywhere. The Start screen is your helpful companion. By understanding its settings, you can tailor it to be both functional and efficient. For example, on my machine I have a dedicated area for games, placing the most-used titles at the bottom left for easy access, while less frequently used ones are positioned further right. You can pin any folders or programs directly on the Start screen by right-clicking them and choosing "Pin to Start." To see all your installed apps, use Ctrl+Tab or click the down arrow. Mastering keyboard shortcuts like Win+I and Win+Q can greatly enhance your navigation experience. I’m confident this will get you started. Feel free to ask if you encounter any issues or have questions.
