Here are some suggestions for realistic single-player FPS games.
Hello, here are some recommendations for realistic, single-player FPS titles. I’m leaning toward war-focused games from WWI and WWII, but I’m also comfortable with modern war games and even non-realistic titles like Doom or Quake.
Currently, you have the following games:
Easy Red 2
Battlefield series
The original Medal of Honor
Far Cry 2, 3, 4, and 5
Doom games (both old and new)
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour
(including the original Duke Nukem 3D and Doom from 1993)
Wolfenstein collection (latest entries)
Some Zombie shooters
I’m looking for a realistic war game with a solid single-player experience. I’m interested in older Call of Duty titles, though I’m unsure if they’re compatible with Windows 10. Steam lists compatibility only for Windows 2K and XP, but I suspect some older titles might still run on Windows 10 unofficially. I’m also considering Arma 2 and Arma 3, but from what I understand, they’re mainly for competitive multiplayer rather than single-player. They do have a Single Player tag on Steam, which is promising.
There are many realistic war games available, though most are designed for multiplayer. I’m open to exploring various FPS options as long as they offer a strong single-player mode.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands offers a great experience, similar to GTA in third person. Some features are in first person, such as aiming down scopes. The weapon sounds impressive, particularly the twin mini guns from the helicopter. You don't jump in this game; instead, you use leap to navigate obstacles and fences, which is just a minor detail.
I haven't played any of the Tom Clancy games yet, even though I've heard positive reviews. I've considered trying them before, but I've never actually played one. I'll give it a shot, thank you for the recommendation.
If you're a fan of Arnie, you'll enjoy the Easter egg in that game ;P
I've never been great at spotting easter eggs in games, it's quite uncommon for me to discover any in any title. But one of the most interesting easter eggs I ever came across was in Anno 1800 when I accidentally pressed Ctrl + Shift + R and suddenly the camera shifted from the usual overhead "god" perspective down to first person view, with a short message popping up saying "easter egg found!" I was completely stunned.
Next thing I knew, I was on the street of one of my island cities, seeing people walking around, horses pulling wagons, and everything else happening. I could even talk to my AI citizens and there were first-person quests available. After discovering this hidden mode, I spent a lot of time exploring my cities from the first-person perspective.
All Arma titles, with the exception of Reforger, feature single-player campaigns. For more realistic experiences, Arma remains the top choice. The Sniper Elite series offers enjoyable sniping mechanics and allows customization of ballistic accuracy. If you prefer team-based battles, the Brothers in Arms series is a solid option. It seems Rainbow Six games (excluding Siege) are available on Steam for slower-paced counter-terrorism scenarios. For realism in handling firearms, Receiver 2 delivers an engaging experience, though it may demand some skillful input.
Haha that's quite clever
Arnie Easter Egg isn't random, actually, though it's not a coincidence; it's just not that likely, but it's near the main storyline so you won't overlook it.
If you enjoy realism and deep immersion, "Escape from Tarkov" is a must-try. This intense FPS game places you in the role of a mercenary striving to survive amidst a devastated city. The level of detail in gunplay, ballistics, and environmental effects sets it apart. The game also features a dynamic economy and a thrilling risk-reward system that keeps players engaged. It's challenging and demands skill and strategy, making it a rewarding experience for those seeking a genuine test.
If you’re not bothered by medieval-themed games, Kingdom Come Deliverance is a great choice. It lets you step into the role of a peasant boy whose village is besieged by an army, with his parents killed. You mainly focus on traveling and completing missions for nobles, gaining skills to become a knight while collecting armor and weapons.
Also, if you haven’t tried them before, I discovered I really enjoyed the Gears of War series. Subscribing to Microsoft’s PC game pass would cost around 10 dollars a month.
Thanks for the idea, it looks like a really captivating title. I'll definitely look into Escape from Tarkov.
