people often expect BIOS/UEFI updates to include USB controller changes, though it's not always certain... my experience was different. On Windows systems it worked, but on Linux it didn’t. That could be something I mentioned earlier. For some reason, three or four of my machines didn’t recognize Windows at all—only the graphics card needed fixing, which I managed to resolve from a younger sibling and turned into my gaming rig. My Ryzen 5 3400G had boot loops and graphics problems; with 16GB RAM it was manageable, but I went into lockdown. An 8-year-old had to do online learning. If I tried a Ryzen 5 2600? Probably not—maybe 3600, but I doubt it. My daughter refuses to install birthdays or Christmas gifts. It’s an odd laptop that can run Linux or Chrome but not the original Windows 10. Wi-Fi causes blue screens; if it works for two seconds, updates crash and we get the report because it didn’t meet user needs.

Bios updates are frequently required for AMD. Less so for Intel. AMD relies on these updates since they’re the only adjustments they can make post-sale, and testing isn’t always done on their systems. They often tackle issues by hunting through bugs. When Linux and Windows versions on the same machine show identical problems, the shared factor is typically the bios settings. Edited June 24, 2022 by Bombastinator

Hey everyone! Looks like the fix was just resetting the CMOS. Sharing this in case others face the same problem. Next, I’d likely update the BIOS—so if it keeps acting weird again, that’s a good backup plan. It might have been a bug. Cretsiah, are you still using AM3? My rig has the Athlon II x4 and after adding more RAM and a dedicated GPU, it started working better. It originally came with just 4GB of RAM and a dual-core processor; loading most websites was slow until the upgrades. Now it handles most PC games up to around 2015, which is plenty for LoL.

It's a bit unusual. Depending on the age of the device, running BL3 at 60fps in 2014 could be outdated. It might be worth checking if it's time to upgrade.

It's just the basics I have; some of my games are now trying harder to keep up, like Space Engineers, Euro Truck Simulator, and American Truck Simulator. The rest are for the younger players.

I'm thinking about donating it next year since it still works well for office and school projects. For gaming, performance is slipping a bit. Being older makes me prefer games from the mid-2000s, though I haven't played Borderlands yet but it seems promising. My last game was Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 on my son's computer. I noticed your specs are impressive, but your PC likely needs more power compared to mine. I only have about 8 gigabytes of RAM, which should suffice for old games and movies. Sims might be demanding to run. When I need something more demanding, I switch to my kids' machines. By the way, if anyone wants to play, I've got Steam set up on my profile.

I’m looking forward to finding some funds in the next 18 months to upgrade my setup... then putting it all away on a server. Just remember, hopes and dreams don’t always happen—just keep waiting and see how life surprises us along the way.
