I placed all components for my latest setup, but whenever I connect the CPU cable from my PSU, the system shuts down. My new motherboard supports a 12-pin connector, yet I only have an 8-pin. Since I won’t be overclocking, I don’t need the extra four pins. My PSU is a bit outdated but should still provide sufficient power for this build. Anyone have suggestions?
wait help me understand, so you plug cables in when your system is running? why would you do such thing?
When I connect the CPU cable to my motherboard, the whole system powers down. I tested it once while the system was running, checking for a short circuit, but it wasn’t there. If I turn it on without the cable, it starts but immediately shuts off when I plug it in. Should I replace the power supply unit?
I'm really glad you're starting this project, but I'm not familiar with all the details. Let me know if you need help!
Turn off your PC and then the PSU. After that, connect the cables. It's a miracle you didn't damage your PC or hurt yourself. Do you also use a fork to take bread out of the toaster?
Stay cool, buddy. That was a mistake, but you can learn from it.
