Hi,
I have a project that I will be required to complete next week for my apprenticeship. I need to essentially build pcs and connect them to the same network, documentating everything, including a test plan. I'm wondering how I would show PCs connected together on the network? Could a simple ping command be enough to evidence this? I'm having issues sharing files through the VMs as it just says windows cannot find the file although I'm going through the steps my boss showed me on hyper v but I don't have access to hyper v at home.
anybody else have any suggestions on how to test the connectivity of VMs or maybe where I'm going wrong on virtualbox if there's a difference with the configuration, between it and hyper v?
Any help appreciated thanks.

no worries, just download and install win 10 pro/edu, run it unactivated. you’ll still have full access. it’s better to confirm compatibility with hyper v if that’s what you’re expected to do.
you can boot pro/edu as a dual boot, switch to it while working, then restart to home when not in use.
if you have extra storage, disconnect everything else and install on that drive. press f8 at boot and select the desired drive.
either method works, but swapping OSes always needs a reboot.

On a Windows machine with Hyper-V, you simply need to install it.

Hyper v requires Windows 10 Pro and the education edition, but I only have a home version.

VirtualBox works well too.
Launch a few Windows virtual machines and share a few directories using file sharing.
Transfer some files between the two virtual machines.

I'm not specifically tested on Hyper V, but a group member advised me to use any virtualisation software available. The certification provider offers a platform for Hyper V, though some find it poor quality. I used Virtual Box without issues, but had trouble sharing files through the internal virtual switch. Today I talked to my boss, reviewed the steps I took, and he believes I might have forgotten to assign separate IP addresses to each VM, which could lead to errors when transferring files. Still unsure until I try it at home.

I configured the VMs and attempted the file-sharing steps, but encountered an issue during the Windows run command. It seems I missed assigning different IP addresses while staying within the same subnet. My boss had a conversation about it today, and he believes it’s resolved now.

When every virtual machine shares the identical IP address, issues will arise.

whenever i configure a virtual network in that way, i also use static ip addresses for each device. this helps with many connectivity problems like this. it's a good starting point when you begin working on it again. sharing folders can be challenging, though—sometimes it works and other times i just give up after hours of frustration.
