Help with video recording software
Hey, I've been struggling for weeks to capture myself while playing and recording, which isn't too difficult just by overlaying in Obsidian. BUT! I'm having trouble finding a way to record my face separately from the gameplay so that in post-production I can place it wherever I want on the screen or adjust its size independently from the gameplay.
So you're looking to do two recordings separately?
Well, I've been trying for weeks to record myself and my gameplay without much trouble—just overlaying in Obs. BUT! I haven't found a way to separate my face from the gameplay during recording so that in post-production I can place it anywhere on the screen or adjust its size independently.
I've tried recording with Obs Studio myself, but never needed two recordings at the same time.
You might want to try these options:
Using two instances of Obs.
If you manage to get a larger game recording canvas than the screen and place your face recording in an unused/black area (you can crop it later), maybe it works.
You might also consider using screen recording tools that let you capture several video inputs simultaneously, like the free application OBS Studio or the commercial XSplit. These applications enable you to build various scenes and transition between them during both recording and streaming, allowing you to switch between a gameplay scene and a face camera seamlessly.
After gathering your individual video files, you can upload them into your video editing program and work on them separately, adjusting the size and placement of your face cam as desired on the screen.
Use a separate camera or webcam to capture the game.
Link your device to your computer, open OBS, and generate a new "Video Capture Device" source.
Choose your camera from the available options and fine-tune settings if needed.
In the OBS timeline, arrange the new video source above your gameplay feed.
Start recording normally; your face will now appear as a separate video source.
Both the game footage and facial recording can be imported into your editing tool later for arrangement and positioning. Adjust the dimensions and placement of each source as required.
