Help with the SSD problem
Today my laptop failed to start right away, showing the Dell logo. I restarted it several times but it still wouldn’t boot. After disconnecting the charger and trying again, the system performed its initial checks. At that point, I saw the error message (photo attached). Through research, I discovered the problem likely involves the SSD. I have two NVMe SSDs installed; one came pre-installed while the other was added later for extra space. I suspect the first one might be faulty since I’m struggling to launch Windows. If I connect it to a power source, it freezes at the logo screen and only boots after several minutes once it’s off. I’m writing this on the same machine. I’ve ordered a replacement P3 drive (identical to the other), but I want advice—do I really need it? Could this be a software issue? This laptop is a gaming rig, heavily used for both games and schoolwork, and it’s only two years old (bought in 2021, Dell G5 5505). Please assist me with this problem. If you have more details, let me know and help me resolve it. Thank you for your time.
It seems your SSD is malfunctioning. Try booting from that drive only if possible; avoid shutting it off until you’ve saved any important data. Check Dell’s support page to confirm warranty status—this may help you obtain a replacement drive. If you’re still covered, you might install the new Crucial SSD and perform a fresh Windows installation.
Thanks for your message. As soon as it started up, I immediately saved my files. This device isn’t covered by warranty, so I’ll install a new Windows version on the replacement laptop. I was wondering if this issue could be caused by the system overheating often.
Hey, the replacement drive has arrived. After installing Windows, you selected the USB stick in boot options and then noticed an underscore appearing followed by a Dell logo that vanished briefly before reappearing. When you tried to reinstall Windows directly on the new drive, the old drive showed up again in the second slot, as if it hadn’t been replaced. I suspect you might have mistakenly installed the old P3 drive instead of the new one, but swapping them didn’t change the drive letter or files. Can you clarify what’s happening?
