There are gaming dual rank sticks available. For instance, 32 gigabytes can be split across multiple sticks to achieve dual rank performance. With 128GB and four sticks, you get dual channel and dual rank for eight ranks. Some servers support quad rank on a single stick of RAM, which isn't ideal for gaming. Many sticks come in dual rank, so pairing two 16GB sticks could provide four ranks in dual channel (like four 8GB sticks). Two 32GB sticks are definitely dual rank and dual channel. Using two sticks gives dual channel, while two 8GB sticks offer better performance than one 16GB stick.

The only options for buyers are either low quality, slow performance, or known to be very unreliable when used with Ryzen. (or a mix of all three)

My GSKill DDR4-3600 dual rank is functioning well on Ryzen so far. All the 32GB modules are dual rank. The only choice for 128GB without using a high-end platform is available. If you meant 16GB specifically, that might be the case. My 16GB units are single rank; the dual rank ones I own are 32GB.

This will raise expenses, don't assume OP intends for it.

The advantage is you can acquire a solid 2 module set today and another later. It also offers only a minor 3-5% variation in performance overall, yet that matches the same price-performance gap as the 5800X versus the 5600X and 5900X. Small improvements still matter...
