Help With Overclocking
I have attempted to increase the clock speed of my i7 4770k but only reached 4.2Ghz. The Vcore was set to Auto, which caused crashes at any higher multiplier. I followed the overclocking guide at http://www.overclockers.com/3step-guide-...l-haswell/. At first, I started with 1.20V and 4.6Ghz, but it crashed when loading Windows. Later, I adjusted to 1.25V and 4.3Ghz, which failed after about ten minutes using Prime95, even at 60°C. My system specs are: Maximum VII Hero Mobo, I7 4770K @4.2Ghz, Strix GTX1080 ti, 16GB RAM, Corsair H80i, 1050W PSU. If this is the upper limit, it’s fine; otherwise I might try different methods. Is this overclocking approach acceptable or should I consider other options?
It varies by motherboard, a faulty one may lack strong overclocking features, possibly due to a locked CPU.
Depends on the motherboard, a faulty one doesn't offer strong overclocking options, possibly due to a locked CPU. My motherboard is an Asus Maximus VII Hero with the I7 4770K, which is unlocked. It's possible I just had bad luck with the CPU.
Billiam1391's comments indicate that the problem may relate to the motherboard, as a faulty one can limit overclocking performance. The user mentions using an Asus Maximus VII Hero with an unlocked I7 4770K CPU, suggesting possible luck or compatibility issues. They plan to investigate further.
The situation varies depending on the motherboard; a poor one may lack good overclocking features, possibly due to a locked CPU. My motherboard is an Asus Maximus VII Hero with an unlocked I7 4770K, so it's possible the issue was unrelated to the CPU. I'm just trying to figure it out and thought about asking on this forum since they handle other questions.

Yep, maybe it was bad luck. I'm going to try fixing it.
It seems okay now, but I thought I should ask on this forum since they handle other issues.

Thanks, I'll take a look but from what I see, things aren't going well.
The information provided does not specify the make or model of the PSU.
You provided the power rating, but the question asks for the PSU's make or model. The response clarifies that the PSU in question is a Coolermaster SPH 1050W.
