Hey there, I see you're having trouble getting your Windows 7 laptop to boot from a Windows 7 HDD. When you use your current Windows 8.1 laptop, it works fine, but with the Windows 7 one it doesn't. You mentioned you're planning to switch to an SSD later, so maybe check the drive type and compatibility. Also, ensure the BIOS settings support booting from an external HDD. Let me know if you need more details! Thanks!

Navigate to BIOS, configure the boot device to the hard disk, then proceed to BBS priorities and locate the appropriate hard drive (if multiple exist)

The issue is that the system won't power on with the new HDD installed

Your system doesn’t require a hard drive to start up via BIOS. The BIOS is already set up on the motherboard.

When I insert the HDD, it fails to start and nothing powers on. If I had to try, I’d have to take it out before setting it up in BIOS.

Remove the HDD, start BIOS, then reattach it.
