Help with new build
Hey there. I’m putting together a new PC for my son who’s about to start school in architecture. I’m a seasoned builder, but this has been a while since I’ve worked on something new. The process was simple enough overall, though some things have changed—especially with the GPU powering. Everything functioned perfectly, running smoothly without any error sounds or strange messages. The boot process was smooth, memory, GPU, and CPU all checked out. Temperatures were good, and NVME performance was near its maximum capacity.
The first problem I noticed is that the memory isn’t displaying correctly in the UEFI. It shows 5600 MHz when it should be 6400. I tried using XMP settings that match the memory specs, but it still won’t load. Resetting the CMOS resolved the issue, so I left it that way for now. The rest of the system works fine.
My main concern is getting the PC to power on after Hibernate, Sleep, or Shutdown. If I unplug it, it restarts normally. No matter how long I wait in any mode, nothing changes. The built-in power button doesn’t do anything either.
I’ve disabled Fast Boot, verified all cables and connections, and everything seems to be in order. Still, I’m struggling to figure out why it won’t turn back on.
Any advice or suggestions would be really helpful.

update the bios to the newest release. this can resolve memory profiles that aren't covered in micro code.
Check the bios for options to enable wake from the selected device.
The keyboard should function as a USB device, for instance.
After updating the bios for RAM settings or other modifications, remember to preserve the changes.
I'll review those configurations. I didn't notice them before, though I wasn't specifically searching for them.
I performed the BIOS update prior to any other changes (besides verifying the XMP settings and encountering a failure to POST). That means everything is running on the latest BIOS version.
Ok update. I reset the BIOS back to factory settings just to be sure I was working from a static baseline.
I changed the ErP setting from Disabled to Enabled and that seems to have fixed the power on issue. I have done 3 successful power down's from Windows 11 and it was able to start right back up with the power button.
Now, if I force Hibernate from the OS, it comes back from that as well.
Forcing sleep mode, it will not come back from that. Waiting for the OS to drop to sleep mode by just waiting makes no difference either. It just won't come back from sleep mode and it requires to pull the PS cord.
I also checked the incoming power. I thought maybe the strip but it reads right on the money for voltage. I plugged it into the outlet (which also reads 5x5) and no difference.
As per
@geofelt
recommendation, I looked in the BIOS but I couldn't find anything about wake. Wake On LAN yes but nothing about how the PC responds to a wake signal.
I would love to solve the sleep issue before he heads out but I turned off sleep mode in the OS so he can just either hibernate to turn it off going forward.
