HELP with my pc!
HELP with my pc!
I assembled this computer at the start of last summer. I included photos of its specifications. It was my first PC and I had just over $400 to invest. My main purpose was to play Fortnite and other simple games. For the first week and half it performed very well and completed the tasks. I don’t recall exactly what happened, but I realized I needed to reset the system and restart Windows. About a week later, my PC became extremely slow and hot. It would also frequently disconnect me from Fortnite. Eventually it crashed constantly. I suspect this was due to overheating, reaching temperatures around 75°C. It also made a loud humming noise. After some time, I thought the thermal paste might be the issue, but after a week it didn’t help. Since it used to run smoothly, I’m curious what will happen now. Thanks for reading, and please keep all the support you can offer!
I realized the reason for the new Windows install was because I was attempting to overclock it, which led to an inaccessible boot drive error last summer.
75 degrees for a processor is quite high, possibly causing thermal throttling. Initially, you might try reinstalling the CPU cooler and reapplying thermal paste. If that doesn’t help, consider replacing the cooler entirely. For context, my Ryzen 7 2700 is running at 31.8°C right now.
The CPU shouldn't slow down until it reaches 90°C. Execute HWinfo64 in sensors-only mode. Expect numerous voltage readings, temperatures, and sensor data. I'm interested in a few examples. Under the CPU area will show performance limits "Per Cap xxx". Any of these become active? On the motherboard section, what are the VRM temperatures? An i7 on an H510 could push it further. If unsure, test HWInfo briefly while playing Fortnite for a short time. Capture as many sensor images as possible and include them in your post with the "eye" icon to keep the page size manageable.
Set it up, operate it normally. Upon launching, choose the "sensors only" option. You'll see a display similar to this. I'm interested in the CPU and motherboard areas. The main idea is to let it run quietly while you play a game, then capture images of it and share them.
