I tried to get the record player working again and finally managed to spin it. However, connecting it to a speaker is proving difficult since it lacked a needle. I inserted a half-sewn needle from a sewing kit, wondering if that might be the issue or if the size was incorrect. Anyone have any advice on how to link the speaker properly? I’m also having trouble locating the ground connection.

There are either two, three, or four pins on the cartridge back. You might need a phono preamp or a receiver with a phono input; those devices don’t output line level and require an equalizer for proper sound correction.
