each time i attempt to set up Ubuntu on an old machine it boots up quickly but then freezes for a few seconds before turning black. I've tried installing it four times, and since my graphics are integrated, pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del opens the Ubuntu menu and restarts the system.

Have you explored another picture? It’s possible the image is faulty or drivers are missing, particularly for video or visual functions.

If the screen turns black, it's likely your graphics aren't compatible. Avoid using anything older than GMA950 on a current Linux distribution. No further assistance provided.

Are you noticing the CLI upon switching terminals? To adjust, press Alt + F[0-9]—remember, Alt + F7 opens the GUI.
