I reinstalled Windows and somehow reached a technical preview without my product key. I was using Windows 7 Ultimate, but my 10 kept refusing to install anything. I can't get my key working and don't know what to do. I tried contacting Microsoft, they just suggested reaching out to the manufacturer, but I'm not the original owner. I recently traded in a laptop for this computer about a year ago.

You might attempt to retrieve information from your formatted C drive and use KeyFinder to locate the key. Remember, you were aiming for Windows 10 but the upgrade failed, so you reformatted the drive and reinstalled Windows 7.

Reach out to the manufacturer. The support representative you talk to won’t be helpful—just mention it’s around $20 for replacement parts or something similar. Try to stay polite and truthful. Remember when I worked in helpdesk, you made things easier for me and even sent me free items? You seemed tough, but I told you to leave quickly.

Yes, you can transfer your media and game installations to a secondary drive during the same process. This way, you won’t need to download them again later.

Use Steam, move the SteamApps folder to your second hard drive, then restore it. Afterward, Steam will recognize all your games again. Also, some of your game saves could be in your documents folder.
