I'm not very tech-savvy, so I went to the place I thought would help. I have a Dell Studio 1737 with a 17-inch screen that’s stopped working and needs a hard drive wipe. Installing Steam OS sounds possible, but realistic? If not, can I still use the laptop’s shell and upgrade it with better components? What would be the challenge with the monitor size and updating it?

For you, it's not realistic because it's still in its very early stages with many problems that need fixing. It's also very limited to Linux games and hardware—last I heard nothing new about it.

You wouldn't gain anything else besides gaming and a larger E-Penis size. I doubt you can improve any laptop parts except maybe the hard drive. Do you have a Windows 7 or 8 installation disc? Would you like to keep the laptop?

I believe keeping the laptop for when you have nothing else to do is a good idea. A simple desktop would pair nicely with it. Thanks everyone, I really value your help.
