Help Overclocking FX-8370
I plan to upgrade to a Ryzen in the future but would like to try overclocking now to boost performance. I purchased a Noctua NH-DH15s Cooler which I intend to install and am curious about the limits of overclocking and any advice others might have. My PC setup includes an FX-8370, 990FXA UD3-R5 motherboard, GTX 1060 with 6GB and 8GB DDR3 RAM, and a Corsair VS550 PSU.
Turn off all AMD power-saving settings in the BIOS, or you risk experiencing an extreme overclock that actually reduces performance and causes severe stuttering.
On my initial trial with an FX chip, I achieved 6GHz, but gameplay was significantly worse than normal. The system wouldn’t safely exceed around 5Ghz without liquid nitrogen cooling.
There are thorough guides available online about overclocking FX CPUs; I recommend searching for them as they contain extensive details.
