Help overclock my 6600k
Adjust to 4.6ghz and up to 1.365v while trying IBT, but avoid large voltage changes just for an extra 100mhz.
running prime95 with large FFTs for testing, @4.5ghz, 1.35v llc level 5, max temp 64°C, core temperature during run is 1.344
grimsin :
Just got back from work.
Went in my bios to check double check what auto voltage was sitting at, it was1.36v...... So idk wtf was going on before...
So I set it at 1.35v(for 4.5ghz)and LLC to level 5, wouldn't boot, set it 1.355v and it booted, went back to bios and set voltage back to 1.35v and put "cpu current capability) to 130% and booted and passes Intel burn tests. And getting much cooler temperatures then with auto.
Now Im trying for 4.7ghz lol
Hi Grimsin,
That's great... I am really happy for you. I once tried 4.7 GHz too and was stable on VCore set at 1.40 V but in the end (after two hours of a Prime95 heat test) the whole rig just shut down as the temp reached 85 C with the power over 100 W. This automatic shut down was to protect the CPU from damage I am sure. So I came back to 4.6 GHz at VCore 1.355 V. In fact, it may not be worth all the trouble for a puny extra 100 MHz (from 4.6 GHz to 4.7 GHz) as the difference, even when benchmarking, was hardly visible anyway. This was my experience. You may have more luck ;-)...
Be careful with increasing the current in the CPU, this is a 14 nm circuitry, it cannot absorb much heat... so it may burn out.
