This motherboard might need both CPU power cables to start up. It's possible the system boots without a display, or it could just fail to boot at all. The 24-pin connection may provide sufficient power for LEDs and fans but not enough to run the CPU without both cables.

If you have a case speaker on hand, it can provide some of this information. For instance, one long beep (for AMI BIOS) means the system passed POST. Five short beeps signify a Processor Error. AMI beep codes are available at http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm. You can also find them from Amazon at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...-_-Product
