Help needed with ongoing PC freezes
No need for an apology, it was just a light-hearted thought of mine. It's been a while since I've had to tackle a PC issue, but I realize they either work or they don't. The build is decent enough, so it was worth the effort to understand what was happening, and it's still a valuable lesson learned.
the am4 platform works well overall, but the problem arises with higher 1.5v settings. some manufacturers run the chips out of spec, and during stock fluctuations between 1.35v and 1.5v, the situation can get worse. it’s mainly due to opening a browser. my experience leans more toward ccd behavior.
a 5900x is essentially two 6-core chips combined, putting a lot of heat into a single cooler. this leads to overheating problems, especially when the system is under heavy load—it can cause one chip to overheat and trigger shutdowns or excessive temperatures. these swings in voltage often result in such issues.
Here’s a brief update... No PC crashes after turning off C-states, though the mouse occasionally stutters—possibly due to hardware. I installed a new MX-6 and re-seated the liquid cooler; CPU temperatures are now 10–15 degrees lower, and the mouse is smoother. The upgraded PSU (Corsair RM1000X) is nearly silent, unlike my older unit that ran hard even during light tasks like web browsing. I might re-enable C-states soon and try other voltage tweaks, but overall I’m very satisfied. Thanks for all the helpful advice shared here.
