Help! My PC is getting way lower FPS than when I played GTA 5 Benchmark.
I saw this video on YouTube about a Benchmark View: https://youtu.be/fVEssWXH3Ak In there they were testing a 3080 Ti and it was doing pretty good to put that way. But when I decided to test my own rig, I noticed my frame rate was way lower than theirs by about -70fps. So I set up the exact same settings as him and went to the same places he checked on 1440p. It ended up being exactly the same thing with me getting 85-100fps while he got 150-175fps. That guy has a better CPU than mine; I have an Intel Core i3-3900X but they have an Intel Core i5-5900X. The difference between those two CPUs is pretty small though, so the main reason my performance was lower is probably not just that one thing.
Do you use the same parts for your computer, like a specific motherboard or RAM sticks? Also, do not trust all what you read on YouTube without checking.
No, the difference between those two (5900x and a 3900x) can be about 20% more when it comes to gaming performance. Zen 3 really jumps up in IPC (instructions per clock) and clock speed compared to a regular 3900x. What power plan are you using? You should probably set your power plan to Ryzen Balanced. Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers, as that gives you the newest power settings. Also, what are your other system specs? How much memory do you have? Is it running in dual channel mode and with XMP or DOCP enabled?
Thanks for getting back to me! I need to update my CPU drivers because it's not working at 3600MHz on my RAM. My RAM is 32GB DDR4 running at DOCP3533, and the model number is F4-3600C18D-16GVk. I can't get that speed. Also, I have a Samsung 500GB drive, another one that's a hard drive, a 1TB storage device, a 4TB HDD, and a motherboard from ROG Strix b450-f gaming. My power supply is a Corsair 850 Gold unit.
First do that, then install a brand new driver for your graphics card. Use DDU to wipe it out and put fresh drivers on the machine. See what happens if you try this. You can also try setting RAM timings manually in the BIOS instead of using XMP or DOCP settings. Maybe trying that makes a difference. It's worth checking just to be sure.
IT WORKED! I haven't had new CPU driver updates since 2020. The GPU drivers are also up to date. I tried manually changing the RAM timings to 3600MHz but that didn't work either. Maybe now that the CPU drivers are updated, it will finally work. Imma try it. Thanks a lot for the help!
Great! I'm glad things are sorted out now. Yes, keeping your drivers up to date for both Ryzen and your BIOS will make sure everything runs smoothly for you. You still have a strong CPU and a great overall gaming setup. If you're happy with the result, feel free to close this thread by picking an answer as the solution. Have fun gaming!
