Hello everyone, today I replaced my 970 with a 1080Ti, but I was surprised there wasn’t any improvement in FPS for CS:GO. In fact, I think the performance might have dropped slightly. I’m using a 240Hz monitor, so I’d love to see my FPS stay consistent at or above 240. My system includes an MSI GTX 1080Ti with 11GB RAM, Intel Core i7-4790, and Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600C9 (2x4GB). What might be causing this issue and how can I fix it?

CSGO demands more processing power from the CPU rather than the GPU, meaning the 4790 might be the main bottleneck.

It seems like your processor is probably the issue now.

It seems like your CPU is running slow or struggling to keep up.

The MSI B85M-E45 with a socket-1150 can work fine; it's compatible with your setup.

Since your CPU is locked, a Z97 motherboard wouldn't improve its performance much. You could run a 4790K on it and push it to 4.8GHz under liquid cooling, but with a 1080 Ti, a full platform upgrade seems necessary now.

The 4790 is a 19% performance limit when paired with the 1080ti. Upgrading to a 4790k and boosting it to 4.7–4.8ghz will improve it noticeably, though I suggest moving to a 7700k or 8700k and at least 16GB DDR4 for better results. An i5-8600k is ideal if you need the lowest cost, offering only minor bottlenecks and saving around $150. You could invest that money in more RAM or a better motherboard. Real-world performance doesn’t match these numbers well.
