Hello and welcome everyone,
I’m starting to assemble a new PC and would really appreciate your guidance on selecting the optimal components.
First, I’d like to know whether it’s more practical to build a system from scratch or go with a pre-assembled model (since I’m based in Germany).
My requirements:
I spend a lot of time watching videos and movies, playing various games (from strategy to FPS to sports), and doing some coding that involves compiling. I also enjoy video editing as a hobby.
My thoughts on graphics cards: I’m not sure whether AMD or Nvidia is better for me. Please advise if this choice doesn’t make sense.
For reference, my previous PC has served me well for over a decade, and during that time I only upgraded RAM, GPU, and storage (switching from HDD to SSD).
My budget is around €2000, though I’m open to going up to €2200 if needed.
Components I’m evaluating:
- Motherboard: "GigaByte X870 Gaming WIFI6" OR "ASUS B850M Max Gaming WiFi"
- CPU: "AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D" (I understand it might be too powerful and could limit performance with my GPU, but I want to keep using it for at least 5–10 years without needing a replacement.)
- CPU cooler: "Noctua NH-D15", "Cooler Master Hyper 622 Halo", or an AIO like "ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 A-RGB"
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (If you have a preference on reliability or want a recommendation, let me know. Also, I’d value your opinion between these options.)
Perhaps a 5080 would be a good fit if I find a suitable deal while staying within budget!
- RAM: "Corsair Vengeance 32GB Kit DDR5-6000 CL30" OR "Patriot Viper Venom RGB 32GB Kit DDR5-6000 CL30"
- SSD: "Samsung 990 Evo Plus, 2000 GB, M.2 PCIe 4.0, up to 7250 MB/s read | 6300 MB/s write"
- Power supply: "850W ASUS PRIME Gold AP-850G, ATX 3.0, 92% efficiency, 80 Plus Gold"
- Case: I don’t prioritize looks and prefer investing more in the hardware itself. I just need solid cooling and enough space for all parts without any issues.
- Additional items: I’ll keep my current Windows license, mouse, keyboard, speakers, and monitor unchanged.
Thank you all!

Which two or three vendors in Germany do you prefer? You mentioned needing a single internal drive with 2 TB, and if you're very active with videos, you might be wondering about additional storage needs. Also, did you know you don't have to keep everything?

What kind of screen do you use? You could see big gains by trying this as well.

Hello, please confirm the AIO and air cooler setup. Also, could you clarify the reason for downgrading the CPU?

Hello, thank you for your response. I would go with Nvidia because they match the price and most people recommend Team Green. It's interesting that you have Nvidia GPUs as well (960, 1060, 3060). You picked a non-X motherboard and a very costly RAM—what an interesting choice. Also, why did you opt for a lower CPU model?

64GB of RAM for your video editing or you can opt for 48GB. 9800x3D means you won't have to worry about parking cores (less hassle), and it's a better gaming CPU too—plus it runs cooler.
