Hello everyone, I’m facing a situation where one of my RAM sticks failed yesterday. With only one more stick available, I need advice from the support list for the X399. I’m not very familiar with RAM options, which is why I’m reaching out.

I’m looking for a configuration of 32GB split between 2 or 4 sticks, staying within a budget of 300€ (Amazon or European sites). My current setup uses an Mobo: x399 Sli Plus with a Ryzen Threadripper 1900X (first gen).

I also have a few questions about RAM slots. Can I install two different RAM modules on separate slots—perhaps one on the first channel and others on the second? Also, does this motherboard support quad-channel configuration, or would it split the four sticks across two dual channels? I understand the slot layout, but I want to know if I can use multiple sticks in different slots.

I’ve noticed that matching RAM frequency to the processor’s speed is important. Why should I care about that? How can I test if a RAM module is faulty? I suspect one or two sticks might be problematic, and I’m worried about the third stick since performance drops significantly when I add another stick.

I’ve seen videos suggesting that CPU core speed and RAM frequency don’t change much, but in my case they fluctuate a lot. Why does this happen? I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks a lot, and I hope you have a great day!
