Hello, I’m experiencing this strange problem only when playing bf2042 and grey zone warfare. It happens unpredictably—either after some time or immediately—causing my monitors to go black as if they were about to shut down. The system lights default, the PC stays on but is completely unresponsive, and the only solution is turning off the power supply. This also occurs when I press FN+PAUSE.
I ran Metro Exodus Enhanced with ultra settings at maximum resolution (3440x1440) for over three hours without any issues, and other tasks worked fine. Temperatures are normal for both CPU and GPU.
Troubleshooting steps tried but didn’t help:
- Factory reset
- Re-seating RAM
- Re-seating GPU
- Unplugging and reconnecting everything
- Changing power plan settings

I’m really confused and don’t know what to do next. I thought disabling the I-CUE fix worked, but it just repeated the problem.
Consider turning off power saving for the GPU and PCI-E slot to determine if that's the problem.
I actually attempted this and unfortunately it didn't work. I'm unsure if one of my components is failing or what. Notably, I couldn't recreate the problem with my GT720 card when using FN+PAUSE; instead the computer would just restart rather than lock up? Confusing.

I recently tried playing gray zone for about 30 minutes and it worked fine, but I need to play longer tomorrow to confirm. The only issues were with battlefield 2042 and gray zone warfare.
Is it problematic that this has occurred around 20 times before and I’m constantly having to turn off my PSU cutting power to switch it on again?

Checking the VRMs on that board, the 5900x might be too demanding for it. That means once the CPU gets hot, the board could struggle to cope. I previously used a 5900x on a B350 board and faced problems after switching to 1440p. At that point, it seemed like overheating started, until I added an AIO cooler.
But I’m wondering if the VRMs on that board aren’t suitable for the 5900x.
That is the same board I have, and it’s strange because it almost feels like the PC it’s being put into a sleep mode and can’t escape, though it happens randomly. I also thought the PSU wouldn’t crash with other intense games, but so far only BF2042 and Gray Zone have worked. The GT720 refuses to show that unresponsive black screen when pressing FN+Pause, which is confusing. I had a similar problem before, but it was caused by a corrupted file on my PC that I fixed, and now I’m unsure what’s happening.
As I mentioned, I’m curious about whether it’s the VRMs on the motherboard. When I had an ASRock B350 board, I used a 5900X GPU and a 6700XT GPU, with a 1080p monitor. At that time, everything worked fine as long as I was using 1080p. However, when I upgraded to 1440p, I began experiencing overheating problems. I recall using a Velooc V5 air cooler, similar to a cooler master hyper 212. What resolved the issue was upgrading to an AIO cooler with a fan that cooled the VRMs on the motherboard. Once that was installed, things stabilized. I’m not sure why it happened then, but I think my GPU was struggling at 1080p, possibly because it wasn’t handling much data and didn’t need much power. I believe when the GPU needed more work at 1440p, it started demanding more from the CPU, which in turn caused overheating due to insufficient cooling. You might be facing a similar situation. I’m not certain, but it would be useful to check if CPU temperatures or usage spikes during those times.
