Last year I purchased an XPS 15 and its warranty expired roughly a month ago. Now that I’m without any protection, charging it fully causes rapid loss of capacity. Recently, when I charged it to 100%, it dropped quickly—starting at 40% and reaching nearly 30% by morning. The Windows settings displayed a full charge then the battery began degrading, even though the computer was off. I suspect dust accumulation might be the issue, despite using a clean environment with clear vents. Additionally, the laptop is overheating significantly compared to just a month prior. I’ve adjusted the BIOS for better cooling, but it’s still getting very hot simply from being plugged in. For now, I’m considering renewing the warranty if it’s a viable option, though I’d rather avoid extra costs.

That is a battery issue and a huge fire hazard. As none of the power was going to charge your battery it was instead producing head. I would highly recommend removing the battery and or replace it if you intend to use your laptop. There is a slight change that it is an issue with you charger so if you can I would test it.

In line with Galaxy's advice, check your laptop from the side to see if it’s rising. If so, you already have some great pillows waiting—don’t wait too long. Reach out to Dell to inquire about coverage; sometimes they’re willing to help after a while since the warranty ends. If not, visit a reputable repair shop with positive reviews and get a quote—expect around $300 if they use your original battery, possibly higher. Make sure to power down the device right away and consider covering it until the repair is done.
