Help deliding a i9-14900K
Hello everyone, I'm looking to clean out my i9-14900K but there are many suggestions on the right approach. Some recommend baking it in the oven for 10 minutes, while others suggest using a soft timer and placing it in the tool to cool down. I purchased a delid tool from AliExpress since I couldn't find a suitable one locally. Any advice on the best methods would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to swap out the stock Intel tim for an LM model. Thanks!
Best guidance: Avoid trying to remove the delay module if your goal is simply to swap the TIM for LM. It’s not worth the risk, especially with an expensive chip like the 14900k. Cooling performance depends on more than just this change. You’ll be far better off focusing on voltage tuning and installing a 13th or 14th socket ILM replacement, such as the Contact frame. Thermalright also offers a suitable option here: https://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-Gene...B0CXF16317. If you’re completely unsure, starting with your most costly chip isn’t advisable. I recommend using 12100 series or cheaper, refurbished CPUs to practice before tackling the 14900k—though you might need to purchase a more affordable 13100/14100 due to availability. Regarding the oven suggestion, it’s usually done with a heat gun or pre-heating plate, not directly in an oven. Using proper tools like the Der8aur tool would be ideal, but delidding still carries risks. It’s better to order directly from the manufacturer for reliability.
